Our game nights were so successful during Snowdown that we’ve decided to keep them going! The last Thursday of every month (that’s tonight!!) we’ll have a featured game. Tonight’s game will be Yahtzee and will start at 8:00pm. There’s no cost to play, and winners will receive prizes. See you tonight!!!!

(various board games are behind the bar and are available all the time – to entertain yourself or your bored child – just ask your server!)

The Irish Embassy Cycling Club

The goal of the club is to provide non-competitive group rides where the social aspect of cycling takes precedence over who is the strongest. Another aspect is to show people that a pub is more than a regular bar where often the goal is to get drunk – it is a place for the community to gather and socialize.

The rides are for everyone, racers and fitness riders alike, and offer the opportunity for the cycling community to come together with a common purpose – to ride and get to know each other. It is a great opportunity for road riders who are intimidated by the race-oriented rides to learn how to ride in a pack and get to know other riders. Mountain bikers can learn the local routes and also improve their skills by riding with more experienced riders. There will be no attacking and if someone has a mechanical or gets dropped the group will slow down or stop and wait.

Being a part of the community also brings some responsibility to that community, therefore the club will also raise funds for local cycling groups and projects. The Fort Lewis College Cycling Team will be one of the beneficiaries of the fundraising – the team has many national championships under its belt but has to raise money to help the team get to its 15 conference and 4 national championship races per year. Another beneficiary will be Bicycle Lemonade (making lemonade out of lemons) – a local group that receives donated, sometimes dilapidated bikes, refurbishes them and then sells them at very low cost, sometimes free, to those in need of transportation.

The funds will come from club members who either donate or raise $60 to receive the official club jersey. These club members will also represent the club in the cycling events that happen throughout the year in the Four-Corners region including the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic, the Durango 100, the Hermosa Off-Road Classic, the Durango Fall Blaze Tour and the Fort Lewis College Cyclocross series. Some members may also race at some larger regional and national events.

All rides start and finish at the Irish Embassy Rides. The first ride will be Thursday May 6, 2010 and will continue every week until mid-October. Riders taking part will be expected to follow the rules of the road and trail and be expected to represent the club in a positive manner at all times.
